Anchor in the Field
(of Becoming)
PERFORMED & CO-CHOREGRAPHED BY
SHERI BROWN IN COLLABORATION
WITH RAPH LAIGO
This post-western Butoh dance work is a ritual of release and transformation blending butoh, sound, visual art, historical research, light and space. The body, once bound by memory and belief, ravels in to presence — thread by thread, gesture by gesture.
The anchor becomes the offering; the field becomes the prayer. Through stillness, rupture, and renewal, the dancer moves toward an embodied redemption — a healing born not from escape, but from trust
and transformation.
Themes of debunked memories, identity, and eventual liberation interweave with the poetic raveling of the “American suit,” revealing a reclaimed landscape of presence within and beyond identity.

“I am in awe of your courage to surpass that which is comfortable and which you’ve always known.
You are a brave being on this planet….Your energy made the whole thing more complete.
I learned from watching you be engaged how I’d like to be.”
